عندما انضممت إلى Google في 2006 شعرت سريعا بأنني جزءا من شيء فريد من نوعه، فثقافة الشركة والطريق الذي تسلكه لتحفيزالإنتاجية في الفريق أثارا إعجابي بشكل كبير. ولقد أمضيت أول عامين في مقر الشركة الرئيس في كاليفورنيا. وهناك أتيح لي الفرصة للعمل مع بعض من أفضل المهندسين الذين التقيت بهم طوال حياتي، كما تعرفت على بعض أنواع الطعام من الأكثر غرابة في العالم، من خلال المجموعة المذهلة من المطاعم المتناثرة في جميع أنحاء حرم العمل، والذي جعل أصعب جزء من يومي هو اختيار المكان الذي سأتناول طعامي به.
بعد بضع سنوات من العمل في كاليفورنيا سنحت لي الفرصة للانتقال داخل نفس الشركة ولكن بمقر زيوريخ بسويسرا لكي أكون جزءا من جهد جديد يتمثل في قيادة فريق هندسي يهتم بمنطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا، واليوم فهذا الفريق من المهندسين المتميزين (الذي أصبح متواجدا في كل من مقر كاليفورنيا وفي مكاتب زيوريخ) يقوم على إدارة مشاريع مثيرة تهدف إلى تحسين منتجاتنا وبناء منتجات جديدة ذات صلة بالصعيد المحلي بالإضافة إلى الأنشطة التي تساعد على نمو ونضج نظام بيئة الإنترنت باللغة العربية.
ومع وفائهم لروح Google فإن فريق المهندسين هذا يعمل بشكل أو بأخركشركة ناشئة، حيث يتم تشجيع كل عضو في الفريق على قضاء 20% من وقتهم في البحث عن أفكار جديدة للمنطقة وللغة العربية، ثم تتاح لهم بعد ذلك الفرصة لتطوير وإطلاق هذه الأفكار. كفكرة Google Ta3reeb وفكرة Google Tashkeel هي بعض الأمثلة لهذه الأفكار. وقد حقق هذا الفريق فائدة كبيرة من التعاون مع زملائنا في جميع أنحاء منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا مع وظائف متعددة مثل: إدارة المنتجات والمبيعات والتسويق وتطوير الأعمال. والحقيقة أن وجود فريقنا بالقرب من قاعدة مستخدمينا أتاح لنا جميعا فرصة أن نحيا الرسالة التي نسعى جميعا إلى تحقيقها وهي: أن نحدث فرقا في الحياة اليومية لكل المستخدمين العرب في جميع أنحاء العالم. ما زال لدينا طريقا طويلا لنقطعه ولكننا سعداء بكل هذا العدد من الابتكارات التي نعمل عليها بالإضافة إلى التقدم المثير في مجال ريادة الأعمال الذي نشهده في جميع أنحاء المنطقة.

We’re hiring!
When I joined Google back in 2006 - I quickly felt that I was part of something unique. The company culture and the path it took to motivate teams was something I was very impressed with. When I first joined Google I started at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California. Here I had the opportunity to work with some of the best engineers I have ever met. (I was also introduced to some of the most exotic food I’ve ever had - with a dizzying selection of cafes all over campus, the hardest part of the day was figuring out where to eat).
After a few years in Mountain View, I took an opportunity to re-locate internally to Zurich, Switzerland to be part of a new effort in leading an engineering team focused on the Middle East/North Africa (MENA) region. Today, this outstanding team of engineers (located in both our Mountain View and Zurich offices) manage exciting initiatives that focus on enhancing our products, building new locally relevant products, and activities that are helping to grow and mature the Internet ecosystem in Arabic.
True to the Google spirit - this team of engineers functions very much like a startup, where each team member is encouraged to spend time thinking about new ideas for the region and language and in their 20% time, they get the chance to build and launch these ideas. Google Ta3reeb and Google Tashkeel are examples of this. This team also has the benefit of working with our colleagues across MENA across functions such as Product Management, Sales, Marketing, and Business Development. Having our team close to the user base allows us to live out the mission we’re all working towards: to make a difference in the every day lives of Arabic users worldwide. We have a long way to go but we’re thrilled by the many cool innovations that we are working on, in addition to the exciting entrepreneurial advancements that we are witnessing throughout the region.
We want to move faster and so we’re looking to expand the team even more. We’re hiring for many positions in Mountain View and Zurich.
